Fireplace Makeover – Part One or the key really is in preparation

of the color of milk or fresh snow, due to the reflection of most wavelengths of visible light; the opposite of black...an interesting summary found when one Google’s the definition of ‘white’. And since our west-facing sitting room is rarely bright enough to see in certain corners, I decided a fireplace makeover would be in order. Mudroom, Scullery or Utility Room…what do you call yours? If like me you are lucky enough to have a room to clean the dirty dog, keep the essential white goods and house your coats and brollies, what should it be known as? Well whatever the name, I thought it was about time you saw another room transformation in our home. Since this incredibly useful room will change only slightly in the forthcoming renovations, it has been treated to a wonderful makeover. From an empty shell to a place to hang your hat, our utility room cum mudroom cum scullery deserves its own mention. A DIY Project – Transforming a Vintage Box into a thing of Beauty

This week I have for you an easy DIY project however before we begin, a little picture painting with words is needed I feel. Recently I went to two country brocantes in two days. This made me very happy. It doesn’t get an awful lot better than that if you are a vintage freak like me.  Stalls and tents were set out with countless treasures to suit all pockets and budgets.  From old faded buttons and spools of vintage silks to French iron beds and glorious feathered eiderdowns …..I was in my happy place. I invested in several beauties myself and one very plain wooden box which caused my friend and fellow shopper to look at me in the way that simply says, here we go again……
